His Crimson Mask

By Dani M. Ward
His Crimson Mask by Dani M. Ward digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Homicide Detective Ayameko Shi is used to keeping people at a distance unless you count the ghosts that have plagued her since she was a child. As a necromancer, Meko has grown used to being unwanted, unloved and hated by all beings, especially vampires. Except there’s one vampire who Meko is drawn to, like a moth to a blazing flame. One whose moves she’s constantly watching, with and without his consent.
Vampire King Nikolai is used to his name striking fear in anyone around him. As a man that’s been around for centuries, he solves all his problems with bloody deaths. Killing someone in his way is the norm for this king. Recently, two issues have plagued his mind, twisting his thoughts until a plan forms inside his deranged head.
Over the last year, vampires have been disappearing all over the city of the undead, Deadstown. If they were killed, he would have found their remains by now. Or as the master vampire, he would have felt their ultimate death, except it’s been nothing but crickets. His second problem is short, irritating, beautiful and can raise the dead. Nikolai has always believed that ‘the only good necromancer is a dead one.’ And yet he can’t deny that Meko intrigues him.
When Nikolai makes Meko an offer she can’t quite refuse, she finds herself whisked away to another city and living another life. Only this time as his fiancée. Can a necromancer and a vampire find the missing vampires in a city full of the dead? Or will the vampires of Deadstown turn on their future queen?

His Crimson Mask Reviews

3.5
“I actually really liked this book. I loved how crazy Nikolai was and how Meko just accepted it, but she was just as unhinged mentally, though she had more morals. The plot twist that Raphael was trying to coup the entire time wasn’t well done. There was no indication that he was a mastermind or even hated his brother, the only indication that he was weird was him constantly flirting with Meko. The author focused so much on Sionnach and Edwin, that she didn’t really develop Raphael being crazy or a villain. Finally, I didn’t like that Meko never used the book until the end. She was being tormented by those vampires and yet she never tried to use the book to at least scare them. Even if she wasn’t actually going to do anything, if she used the book to control the vampires, that would’ve scared them enough to leave her alone.”
“Ayameko and Nikolai are a wild couple! I had a good time watching them figure each other out. It was really her figuring him out, because Nikolai already knew what was up 😏 The drama and spice were good, while the action was a little clunky and the proofreading was lacking in some spots, but overall a good read.”
“Absolutely ADORED this book. I loved the little Easter eggs she put into it and I especially loved how she blended real world issues with fantasy. It gave the book and characters so much depth and kept me captivated from page 1. Ayameko and Nikolai could not be more different but the same all at once. While I know that sounds like a complete contradiction, I can assure you it is not. Vampire king Nikolai and Necromancer Ayameko are a perfect pairing and I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for them in "Halloween". Dani has this way with words that ANY reader can connect with the characters. I look forward to reading more of her books and finding out what is next. Do not sleep on this book/author. I honestly cannot believe how Dani is not more widely known with how amazing her books are. Also, slight spoiler...not really a spoiler, that period scene tho....girrrlllll that was hot. Lol.”
“The plot could’ve been something but it kept getting lost in between all the sex. I can’t be mad though, I love a possessive MMC. Hahaha”
