His Black Tongue is a tale of medieval horror, plunging the reader into the plague-torn land of 14th century France, when pestilence and death walked hand-in-hand, and life was little more than a sputtering candle, waiting to be put out. But there are worse things than death, than sickness and decay… and it comes upon leathery black wings.

“I listened to this as opposed to reading it and oh my god.
It was creepy, and really got the horror aspect across in a way that made me NEED to listen to all the stories and find out what happened.
The readers performance kept me gripped and uncomfortable, the sound effects were skin-crawling but only served to enhance the stories. The stories themselves? I LOVE some good eldritch religious horror. The monsters are where both the author excelled providing excellent, horrific descriptions and sound effects to make sure every gross, stinking detail was covered so that it was almost stood before you.
The characters felt very fleshed out and well thought out, even though the three stories were relatively short. I really found myself intrigued to just find out there fates as the stories progressed.
Genuinely a great and unsettling listen.”
“The way this (a bit too short imo) story immediately pulls you into the setting is very satisfying. The whole country suffers from the Plague except for this little town.
I’m still left with many questions, but I’ve read that it’s part of a larger theme so that’s fine. More for me to read lol. But that twist in the ending tho???? Made me do a double-take.”

This rating is for the first and main story in the book.
Titled: His Black Tongue
I was so ready to give this 5 stars. Honestly the audiobook really added a whole star. The background score really set the scene and added so much. I’m very picky about my audiobooks and I really liked this one. The voices/accents matched the characters well and it felt like listening to a movie rather than actors reading a script. I love a mix of historical setting and supernatural elements.
It was suspenseful and creepy and kept me on the edge of my seat. Especially when the action started. It ends with an insane twist I would never have guessed. It has a loose ending. Seeming to hint at a sequel possibly. I was a little disappointed the book didn’t continue with Remy and the Friar. It just jumps to another short story. Which kind of threw me off.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ for the 2nd short story.
Titled: The Bone Fields
I enjoyed the viking era setting and the island they discovered was entirely unnerving. The accents in the audiobook also match the setting/historical era which I really liked.
It ends with a bit of a cliffhanger.
