Publisher Description

Prepare for the action-packed, ruthless, and romantic new fantasy from the #1 New York Times bestselling and National Book Award winning author Sabaa Tahir about love, legacy, and vengeance.

An orphan.
An outcast.
A prince.
And a killer who will bring an empire to its knees.

Growing up in the Kegari slums, AIZ has seen her share of suffering. An old tragedy fuels her need for vengeance, but it is love of her people that propels her. Until one hot-headed mistake lands her in an inescapable prison, where the embers of her wrath ignite.

Banished from her tribe for an unforgiveable crime, SIRSHA is a down-on-her-luck tracker who speaks to the earth, air, and water to trace her marks. Destitute, she agrees to hunt down a killer who has murdered children across the Empire. All she has to do is carry out the job and get paid. But then, she falls for a charismatic and inconvenient fugitive who keeps getting in her way.

QUIL is the crown prince of the Empire, nephew of a famed and venerated empress, but he’s loathe to pick up the mantle when his aunt steps down. As the son of the most hated emperor in the history of his people, he, better than anyone, understands that power corrupts. When a vicious new enemy threatens the survival of the Empire, Quil must ask himself if he can rise above his tragic lineage and be the heir his people need.

Beloved storyteller Sabaa Tahir masterfully interweaves the lives of three young people as they grapple with the burdens of power, the treachery of love and the devastating consequences of unchecked greed. Get ready for a dark and breathless journey that will captivate readers and that may cost these young people their lives―and their hearts. Literally.

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“Despite the fact that it took me a long time to read, this book was incredibly engaging. I haven't been this into a high fantasy in a minute. I was loosing my mind over plot twists and coming up with theories every chapter 😂. Just like the embers quartet reminded me of the best parts of StarWars this book was reminiscent of Avatar (the last Airbender) specifically the touch of elemental magic & Sirsha's heartbreaking dynamic with her sister. I'm excited for this story to continue & to see if any of my current theories come to fruition.”

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“📚October 2024 Fairyloot YA Theme: Castles Crumbling 📚 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Okay, so I jumped right into “Heir” by Sabaa Tahir without reading the An Ember in the Ashes series first! 🙈 I’d heard whispers that it could stand alone, and I was way too eager to start my Fairyloot book 📖✨ without diving into four others books first. But, here’s the deal: I think you’d enjoy it even more if you’ve read the An Ember in the Ashes series first. 🌌🔍 With a few quick Google searches, I managed to pick up just enough to follow along without (hopefully🤞) spoiling anything major from Ember.🎉 That being said 💫 Heir gave me all the feels. Every character has this deep, raw struggle that hits home. 🥹 And seriously, the character development and stories here is chef’s kiss! 👩‍🍳💋 Here’s what made two of my favorite character stand out for me: Sirsha 💔: With her hidden, bleeding heart ❤️ and that tough exterior 🛡️—she’s just so real. Who doesn’t relate to protecting themselves while carrying so much inside? Sirsha is just… everything. Quill 💪: Loyal to his friends, family, and people till the very end. He’s exactly what we all want in a friend (but rarely find)! 💙 In a world that can feel so disconnected, Quill’s devotion is a breath of fresh air. ✨ Final thoughts: Heir is an emotional ride 🎢 with characters who make you feel. For those who love deeply connected, heartfelt storytelling, don’t miss it! And if you have time, read the Ember series first—it’ll only deepen the experience. 🌌📚 Happy reading, bookworms! 📚💖 🎨 Art Recognition: 🔮 An EXCLUSIVE REDESIGNED COVER by @micaelaalcainodesign 👑 A REVERSIBLE DUST JACKET with the UK trade cover ⚔️ A DESIGN ON THE HARDCOVER by @blanca.design with foil details 🖤 FOILED CHARACTER ART ON THE ENDPAPERS by @polarts_ (different front and back) 💫 A DIGITALLY SPRAYED EDGE by @micaelaalcainodesign with a solid top and bottom edge #FairylootYA #Sabaatahir #Heir”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“In this humble readers opinion, Sabaa Tahir has one of the best writing styles I’ve ever read. It’s clear without being boring and ‘telling’ rather than showing, it’s laced with humour and heart. I am an avid fan of the ember quartet, but I only read it this year and I’m kicking myself for not getting to it sooner. Learning there was a spin off both excited and worried me. Excited me because I learned we were going back to the characters I adored so much, even if briefly - but also learning what they’d been up to. Worried because of high expectations and the fact that Sabaa enjoys inflicting emotional damage. Without giving spoilers, she very much did - admittedly, this was spoiled for me prior to reading the book and I will say I feel like she tried to deliver it in such a way that it wasn’t totally heart ripped from body sad, and that you had time to prepare yourself. And the characters, oh boy, the characters. They are all (bar one) so likeable but also have a lot of depth and history. The plot itself is fast paced, with a lot of action and the lore — oh my god, the lore and the magic system. I can’t say more lest I give spoilers but I recommend this whole heartedly.”
