**A Good Morning America YA Book Club Pick**

"Heir is a tour de force of fantasy that will leave readers breathless and boneless and aching for more." – Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Once Upon A Broken Heart

Prepare for a ruthless and romantic new fantasy from #1 New York Times bestselling and National Book Award winning author Sabaa Tahir that introduces a new generation of characters set in the same world as the unforgettable An Ember in the Ashes series.

An orphan.
An outcast.
A prince.
And a killer who will bring an empire to its knees.

Growing up in the Kegari slums, AIZ has seen her share of suffering. An old tragedy fuels her need for vengeance, but it is love of her people that propels her. Until one hotheaded mistake lands her in an inescapable prison, where the embers of her wrath ignite.

Banished from her people for an unforgivable crime, SIRSHA is a down-on-her-luck tracker who uses magic to trace her marks. Destitute, she agrees to hunt down a killer who has murdered children across the Martial Empire. All she has to do is carry out the job and get paid. But when a chance encounter leads to an unexpected attraction, Sirsha learns her mission might cost her far more than she’s willing to give up.

QUIL is the crown prince of the Empire and nephew of a venerated empress, but he’s loath to take the throne when his aunt steps down. As the son of a reviled emperor, he, better than anyone, understands that power corrupts. When a vicious new enemy threatens the survival of the Empire, Quil must ask himself if he can rise above his tragic lineage and be the heir his people need.

Beloved storyteller Sabaa Tahir interweaves the lives of three young people as they grapple with power, treachery, love, and the devastating consequences of unchecked greed, on a journey that may cost them their lives—and their hearts. Literally.

“3.8 ⭐️ listen I read ember in the ashes & co at the right time this year because conveniently heir came out like two months after I finished the quartet and was SO EXCITED LISTEN TO ME EMBER IN THE ASHES GUTTED ME IN A WAY I HAVENT FELT SINCE I READ RED RISING OK anyway I was super excited to come back to the world but lowkey I think my expectations were set a bit too high because though I enjoyed the book I did expect more - the world: slaps idk how else to put it like the map? The different regions? The languages? The culture? Iconic amazing incredible otherworldly like I was IN the world like sufiyan is literally my neighbor no notes - Helene: my girl can NEVER CATCH A BREAK !!! EVEN NOW 10 YRS LATER WTF I CAN NEVER EVER SEE HER HAPPY AND AT PEACE ITS SICKENING - the pov changes: ok i love a multi pov as some know however comma the random cero pov and the random sufiyan pov had me like ??? wjdkekdkdk just out of nowhere kinda threw me for a spin and made it feel kinda disjointed sometimes?? Idk if its just a me thing but like it was so weird for me lol it only happened maybe 3 times but still it took me out lowkey - quil: love him but also need to find out more like i feel like i didn’t find anything really uniquely him? Other than hes a lover boy to his core like idk i just couldn’t really connect with him like i did elias for example - sirsha: you know what i wasn’t sure at first but I love this girly she really grew on me - aiz: this bitch listen I know why she did it okay but like ??? Annoyed tf out of me and also like umm idk I was shook when we discovered aiz’s pov at first was in the past and it reminded me of what Carissa broadbent did in the SPOILER second book of daughter of no worlds so it wasn’t like unique to me but also I kinda wish there wasn’t so much because I kinda knew where everything was going and didn’t find anything out in a twisty way if that makes sense? Like I knew that thing wasn’t actually Miss div, that aiz was the one behind the attacks, that she had faked her death as ilar etc like I wish i didn’t know so much lol - laia: love you girl - elias: LOVE YOUUUUUUUU i was so hype when he was telling off aiz and telling her to go tf home lmaoo - Helene: THIS IS MY GIRLLLLLLL I LOST MY MIND WHEN SHE STARTED CHOKING AIZ AND WAS TELLING HER NOT TO FUX WITH HER LIKE YAAAAAA i wish elias had gotten a stab at her though that would’ve been great - overall; i liked the book, it was slow at first and it was just like a whole bunch of exposition and getting to learn the new characters which is a tedious task but it wasn’t until maybe part 3 when i was really really invested because everything kinda took too long to get together like i get it but also i just wish i felt just as gripped as i did when I read the first ember in the ashes idk (this is me just saying i wish we had a Helene pov again lmaoooo) like how in iron gold we got new characters povs + og one’s so it wasn’t new new but easing into the new characters while still comforted by the og ones yeah i wish it was like that but whatever i just know the second one is gonna EAT”
