Heartless (Chestnut Springs, #2)

By Elsie Silver
Heartless (Chestnut Springs, #2) by Elsie Silver digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Working as a nanny for the world’s grumpiest single dad should have been simple. Except I can’t keep my eyes off him. And he can’t keep his hands off of me.

Cade Eaton is thirteen years older than I am and barely looks my way. Until I get him into the hot tub one night for a game of truth or dare. Then all bets are off—and so are our clothes.

He’s gruff, a little rough around the edges. But broad-shouldered ranchers with calloused hands and filthy mouths are this city girl’s kryptonite. So who am I to resist?

But it’s in our quiet moments together that he softens. It’s when he takes care of me that I realize his hardened exterior is just a façade. It’s when I watch him go all sweet with his little boy that I really fall for him.

Someone convinced him once that his best wasn’t good enough. But I’ve never felt more cherished than I do in his arms.

My contract may say this arrangement is only for two months.

But my heart says this is forever.

“If you’d asked me approximately 30 hours ago how I felt about the single dad trope, I would’ve laughed & said “a big, fat, absolutely no” However we are now 30 hours ahead of that moment, and in the meantime I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Cade Eaton - which is to say, I stand corrected. I, too, would accept having a barfing, sticky-ass child, if it meant that package included a Cade. (Jokes aside Luke is actually pretty cute) Also. Can I just say I wish Harvey would adopt me? He’s funny af - “At the end of this summer, you’ll leave, but you’ll be back. Because there’s no way in hell that this ends here. I won’t allow it. We’re going to figure this out. You got me?” - “You want it all, Willa? The house? The babies? The ranch?” I nod again because it’s all I can do. I want all that. With him. “You want me, Willa?” “Yes.” “Good. Because I’m sick of holding back with you. You’re not going anywhere. You belong here, with me.” - “And then up here” - Luke drags me toward the house - “we wrote our initials inside the hearts.” He nods happily, biting at his lip, and looking so damn proud. “And this one is yours.” He points at a heart that’s right next to one with the initials C.E., except this one says W.E. “My initials are W.G., bud.” I give him another squeeze and he giggles. Cluelessly. “I know. But dad made that one. I told him the same thing.” My head snaps around to Cade, who still hasn’t moved but is staring at me like I might disappear if he blinks. “But he said they wouldn’t be for long.” - “You paying attention right now, Red? Because I’ve spent days thinking hard about my life, and I’ve got some things to tell you. I’ll be here with you, no matter what. I want to come home to the sound of you and Luke laughing. I want to listen to you play the guitar while I cook dinner. I want to leave you Post-it notes for a long time.” We stand in silence for several minutes, just holding each other in the middle of the front yard, beside the heart he made for me, with my future initials written into the center. Like he’s just that sure of me—of us.Like we’re better together and he knows it. “I love you, Cade,” I murmur against his chest. “I love you too, Red.” - It’s Willa I can’t take my eyes from. I ride straight to her, in the middle of a packed arena, sling an arm around the back of her neck and kiss her.I kiss her hard. I kiss her to say the things I can’t find the words for. “I love you, Cade Eaton, and I am so damn proud of you,” is what she whispers in my ear while her fingers trail up the back of my neck. “I love you too, baby,” is what I get out, just before she pulls the black cowboy hat off my head and plunks it on her own. Leaning back away from me, she gives me a playful little smirk. I quirk a brow in her direction. “You know the rule, Red?” “You wear the hat, you ride the cowboy.” She winks at me.”
“J'ai beaucoup aimé ce deuxième tome mais si je n'ai pas beaucoup aimé la fin j'avoue que ce n'est pas ce à quoi je m'attendais. En tous cas les personnages sont hauts en couleur, Willa est vraiment drôle et pleine d'entrain, Cade est un vieux con aigri mais qui apprend à se détendre peu à peu au contact de Willa. Mention à Luke qui est clairement la star de ce tome. J'ai hâte de lire la suite 💞 @gigiandfleurbookclub”
