Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

The stunning sequel to Daughter of the Moon Goddess delves deeper into beloved Chinese mythology, concluding the epic story of Xingyin—the daughter of Chang’e and the mortal archer, Houyi—as she battles a grave new threat to the realm, in this powerful tale of love, sacrifice, and hope.

After winning her mother’s freedom from the Celestial Emperor, Xingyin thrives in the enchanting tranquility of her home. But her fragile peace is threatened by the discovery of a strange magic on the moon and the unsettling changes in the Celestial Kingdom as the emperor tightens his grip on power. While Xingyin is determined to keep clear of the rising danger, the discovery of a shocking truth spurs her into a perilous confrontation.

Forced to flee her home once more, Xingyin and her companions venture to unexplored lands of the Immortal Realm, encountering legendary creatures and shrewd monarchs, beloved friends and bitter adversaries. With alliances shifting quicker than the tides, Xingyin has to overcome past grudges and enmities to forge a new path forward, seeking aid where she never imagined she would. As an unspeakable terror sweeps across the realm, Xingyin must uncover the truth of her heart and claw her way through devastation—to rise against this evil before it destroys everything she holds dear, and the worlds she has grown to love . . . even if doing so demands the greatest price of all.

Slightly Smiling Face“I have mixed feeling. I'm not a fan of love triangles and I don't love who she ended up with but I do feel like she wouldn't have been happy as an empress.”
Loudly Crying Face“this duology was so beautiful and this book wrapped it up so perfectly! sue lynn tan really did a fantastic job with this asian/chinese mythology inspired fantasy duo and I loved every second of this. the love triangle is resolved, there is heartbreak and death and love and all the finality needed of a duology. the final battle is so beautiful and sacrificial. LOVED LOVED LOVED”

Surprised Face with Open Mouth“My word, this one plays with your emotions. I felt so sad when Wenzhi died! I thought well then she must marry Liwei, but really I was so sad for her. She was grieving Wenzhi so badly and you could see really it was all about him and devastating that she'd left it too late. Though can you blame her, he had betrayed her trust so badly in the the first book. Every part of those last couple of chapters was so hard to read, knowing even if she got with Liwei I'm not sure it would if been the right ending. Then... Wenzhi... comes back?! As a mortal?! My gosh that's just nuts, but in the best way possible!! But I would have liked to have seen her give him the elixir of immortality and gotten his memories back, though it's nice meeting him where he doesn't really remember. It might be a bit better like that for a while actually. Ok enough about the ending. The only real reason it didn't get a 5 stars is the beginning wasn't anywhere near as strong as the first book and parts of the plot with the laurel a bit here and there. But it really comes together at the end and packs a killer punch. Maybe a bit haphazardly thrown together battle at the end. Definitely a great read though!!”
Slightly Smiling Face“Very satisfying ending to the duology. Had me guessing which way the romantic interest would go. A couple of under written minor characters, but if you have read the first book it all makes sense. I love the descriptions of the setting and landscape. Really beautiful use of language.”
