Going into it almost immediately, I kind of wished they connect more emotionally during their first meet (after years of being apart), instead of imeddiatley feeling horny. I did think some pages I read were funny and definitely enjoyable at times (& sweet), but I was expecting a little bit more. Not to mention there was some momments where I just had to stop reading and ask myself If I wanted to just stop reading the book altogether, whether it was because of some weird thing they said that made me cringe, or just the plot feeling really slow.
Also it was in third person, and don't get me wrong I love some books in 3rd person, but in romances I feel like it kind of takes away from the whole "I feel it" part of the story. The feeling that first person gives you that just makes you feel deeply connected to the characters.
I found myself just skipping ahead to see how much I had left of the book and I ended up realizing that there was technically a third act breakup, and that's just one trope I can't get behind. I'm so sorry for anyone who really enjoyed this book, but it just wasn't for me.
Although I did like how the author included awareness of childhood abuse and neglect, it's a real thing and more people should pay more attention to those situations.
Rest assured I'm sure lots of people would like this book, but for me personally it was a no. Maybe sometime in the future I'll give this book another shot.

quotes I did like:
"The sound of Rae's laugh as she held onto him put him on cloud nine. He couldn't remember ever feeling this happy. It was more than happiness. It was euphoria."
♡
"But this wasn’t some woman. This was Rae. Everything he knew about charming or seducing women somehow flew out the window and got run over by a semi when she was near. Because he actually cared. Because she was...it."
♡
"Homecoming was just a big show, anyway. He didn't need to see Rae in a fancy dress to know she was all he wanted"”
“Oh. My. God. Quinn Casey the man that you are. I wasn’t sure going into this how to feel about dual timelines and well as dual POVs. I LOVED it though. Getting the backstory and progression of their relationships as teenagers as it ended up relating to current day? So exciting. The sex? Ooooooh boy. Rae is a very very lucky woman. I love that she knew what she wanted from sex. She embraced her sexual desires. The characters were so real, allowing us glimpses into their traumas and insecurities. Flawed characters are my favorite. Miscommunication trope is not necessarily my favorite but the way it was done, felt very true to real life. Estranged friends to lovers, he falls first, steamy sex? Yes please.”
“Yikes.. made it about 12%.
My first issue was the Game of Thrones references because in episode 1 the actress was 16 year old (IRL) getting fake fucked but a 30+ year old man.”
