Publisher Description

So Dark and So Grimm...

The glossy veneer of happily ever after has fooled readers into believing fairy tales are bright and happy stories;, but if you scratch the surface of any story collected by the Brothers Grimm, it bleeds. Manipulation and Murder, Tension and Torture. Grimm Retold cracks open the horror splattered between the pages of the old stories to reveal the thriving darkness within these classic tales.

Twenty stories and poems, from twenty authors, retell classic fairy tales; their teeth on the anxious pulse that has always flickered from the hearts of Grimm's collections.

Rapunzel, Snow White, Cinderella The Elves and the Shoemaker, The Fisherman's Wife, The Robber Bridegroom, Red Riding Hood, The Old Beggar Woman, Hansel and Gretel, The Girl with No Hands, The Willful Child, The Pied Piper, The Nixie of the Mill Pond, Blue Beard, Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Crystal Ball, The Juniper Tree, The Frog Prince, Fitcher's Bird, and Rumpelstiltskin.

With stories from Tanith Lee, Ef Deal, Carol Gyzander, Tiffany Morris and Lindsay Comer, Eleanor Cooke, F. Ffrench, Ephiny Gale, J.R. Harlow, Ell Huang , Jade Jiao, TT Madden, David Kenneth Mitchell, Nico Martinez Nocito, Elizabeth Rosen, Erica Ruppert, Liv Strom, M. Weigel, Jacqueline West and Shehrazade Zafar-Arif

be warned; Grimm stories have never been so dark.

Thinking Face“i liked this little anthology, and definitely found some authors from it who i like :) my only gripe with it is that there were some stories that were seemingly not edited well, in particular there was one with many grammar mistakes, which interrupted the flow of the read. overall though, some very cool stories! also, i received an ARC for free, and i'm leaving this review voluntarily 🖤”

“"When would you say is the right age to run out into the road and get hit by a car?" I asked. "I might try it later." Firstly, I haven’t read the original Grimm Tales, though I’ve thought about it, but after reading this, it's a must. Sometimes I had a problem with reading because these authors have different writing styles, and just when I got used to one, I’d reach the end of the story. So, if that’s a big problem for you, either take your time reading it (pause after every tale) or don’t read it. Now, about the stories, haha. Well, I haven’t read all the Grimm Tales (even the children's versions), so I didn’t know which story some of them were based on. But for the ones I did know, I recognized them. Some took a bit of time to recognize, while others were pretty easy. Overall, I liked this collection. I enjoyed that they were twisted and dark—maybe I was expecting a bit more darkness, but it could just be that I have a different perception of "dark and twisted."”
