“I wish I didn’t feel so strongly about disliking this as it was based off a true story. I just felt like it was a surface level retelling of something I could have learned about elsewhere, stretched out to a book’s length. I don’t think it added anything of real substance like if it was the survivor herself writing a memoir, it would have been much more impactful. It truthfully came off as guessing what someone’s feelings in an actual real life traumatic experience would feel like, which doesn’t make me feel great. Definitely take note of the trigger warnings as it was darker than I anticipated. I hate to say that a piece of work felt unnecessary as the author 100% wrote this from such a good place in her heart, but I just got the feeling that not every story needs to be a book. I wasn’t expecting a happy ending at all, but it just ends in a very unsatisfying way that the accomplishment of surviving the ordeal ultimately fell short due to the writing. It was thrilling and somewhat held my interest but it simply wasn’t for me!”

“Had some issues, but overall I really enjoyed the book! A good look at human resilience with each character adapting according to their own experiences. Ending happened very fast, but the epilogue was super cute!”
