Publisher Description

Girl of Nightmares, the thrilling sequel to Kendare Blake's critically acclaimed Anna Dressed in Blood.

It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.

“Writing: I'm not usually one for first person POV, but this read as smoothly as I remember the first book. Cas's narrative is equal parts sassy and elegant. He certainly doesn't spare us the details regarding his encounters with the dead, and I love it. Plot: I loved the concept: Anna suffering a Prometheus-esque punishment in her sacrifice to save Cas and Co. I guess I was a bit surprised with how long the journey to finding her took. It took about 40% of the book just for Cas and Thomas to figure out that Anna was trapped in an Obeahman Hell. Then about another 50% of the book to figure out a way to open a door to reach her. The action I've been waiting so long for, the reunion of the two, happened so quickly at the end. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the journey. It was speckled with ghostly adventures that were just really fun to read. They were creepy and disturbing and gave me goosebumps when I read them at night. We also got a lot of character development with an arc about Thomas and Carmel's relationship. I was wondering just how exactly the conflict would come to an end. It was the same question I always had in the first book: how is a living boy going to find his happy ending with a dead girl? I think this book wrapped that up as bittersweet as possible. The Obeahman is ended for good, all of the souls he'd trapped were sent on, and Cas makes that final decision that broke my heart (in a good way I guess). You know that saying, if you love someone then set them free? It really hit home in this story. And while I am heartbroken that Cas and Anna won't get to be together, at least Cas and I can be pacified by the fact that Anna can live her own happy ending in her afterlife. Characters: I don't remember too much about what I thought of Carmel and Thomas from the first book. Back then, I guess I was too focused on Cas and Anna. But here, I couldn't ignore Carmel or Thomas for a second. The relationships between the three definitely bloomed in this book and became so much more dimensional. Thomas was probably one of the best "best friend" characters ever, and it was so much fun reading more about his "witchy" side. Carmel really underwent a lot of character development with her struggle to choose between her normal life and a dangerous one with the one she loved. The evolution of her and Thomas's relationship as a result of this struggle was a delight to read.”
Expressionless Face“Should have stuck with just the first book”
