George Washington (The American Presidents, #1)
ByPublisher Description
In this thoughtful and incisive biography, the strengths and weaknesses of Washington's presidential leadership are dissected, from his lasting foreign and economic policies to his polarizing denunciation of political parties and his public silence about slavery. The result is a surprising portrait of the multidimensional man behind the myth he so assiduously crafted.

“A short book covering the life of George Washington, and his presidency in particular. I wish Burns would give a bit more on Washington's time as commander of the Continental forces during the Revolution, but I am intrigued by some of the more... venal and self-interested aspects of a younger Washington (pre-revolution) and by just how committed in his second term Washington became to supporting the Federalist party, all while despising the very idea of political parties.
Not the best biography book in the world, but when it comes to the Father of our Country, it doesn't really need to be.”
