Inspired by her childhood love of books like A Secret Garden and The Chronicles of Narnia, bestselling author Tahereh Mafi crafts a spellbinding new world where color is currency, adventure is inevitable, and friendship is found in the most unexpected places.
There are only three things that matter to twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him. But it’s been almost three years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’s about to embark on one to find the other.
But bringing Father home is no small matter. In order to find him she’ll have to travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. It will take all of Alice's wits (and every limb she's got) to find Father and return home to Ferenwood in one piece. On her quest to find Father, Alice must first find herself—and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of loss.

“Another one of the best books I've ever read.
I have not read something that made me feel so warm inside from a magical theme since Harry Potter, and it was so lovely. The character of Alice reminds me of a little girl who just wants her parents to be proud of her and Oliver was a typical 12/13 year old boy who enjoys bossing people about. I loved that Mafi didn't make her characters end up falling in love, too. It was just an easy read that had a nice happy ending based on family, which was so heartwarming and sweet.”

“DNF becuase my audio expired, and I don't think I am intrigued enough to finish it right now. Maybe someday I will re read when I am in a super whimsical mood. this book was like a cross between Alice in Wonderland and The Phantom Toll Booth, both of which I loved as a child.”
“Alice in Wonderland retelling with elements taken from other tales like The Little Prince. It made me smile throughout, but I've heard the second book's writing is much better! Great teachings and ideas that put many smiles onto my face.”

“Meraviglioso! Poche volte ho pianto di gioia per un finale. Questo libro è un esplosione di colori e magia e amicizia! Un middle grade che insegna ad amarsi per ciò che si è e che essere diversi non deve per forza essere un male! Come sempre la Mafi non mi delude!”
