Publisher Description

If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.

After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.

But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.

Including Ivan Lukov.

“This is my third time reading this book and it’s one of my favorites for a reason. I love this book so much and it’s one of my go to comfort reads.”
“Dnf at 87%. Wow. I just couldn't care anymore. Before started this book, I was told it was a slow-burn. It’s not even a flicker. I’m almost done with the book and there’s barely a romance. There’s barely anything of anything in this book and it’s a shame because I can definitely understand why it’s so well-loved by many. It has the potential for really good things but falls flat in execution. First off, the writing is insanely grating; paragraphs upon paragraphs of inner ramblings from the main character and details that don’t matter at all for the story. A simple conversation between two characters takes pages because Jasmine’s inner monologue gives us entire flashbacks and reflections to then continue the conversation between the characters. It doesn’t help keep you invested in the story. It’s also extremely frustrating to be hooked on the idea of a figure skating concept and get into an almost 600-page book, for there to be… almost no figure skating. Mind you, I’m 87% in. I can count with my hand the number of scenes relating to actual figure skating. Not to mention we’re told over and over again how Jasmine is the best of the best in figure skating and yet, we don’t see it. I enjoyed the banter between Ivan and Jasmine well enough. I can see the rivals to lovers play out and could have had an interesting resolution. However, Ivan over and over calls her “meatball” which she had already expressed she didn’t like. Why continue? Further, this book has raging fatphobia that is never ever challenged in the text. I understand Jasmine is a professional athlete, but the way she talks about her body and everyone else does is jarring. A lot of the narrative choices this book takes makes no sense to me. We’re told Jasmine is (or was) close friends with Ivan’s sister, only for her to NEVER appear in text or for conflict. Also, Jasmine mentions multiple times how gorgeous her mom is and how young she looks and how her mom’s husband is young, but why? There was no rhyme or reason behind it. I also just think Jasmine in general is so emotionally unregulated. She had extreme reactions for actions that didn’t merit it. She would make assumptions for people’s intentions when nothing we know of them would back that up. Her own attitudes would create most of the problems she had which was just frustrating. This book needed extreme editing and culling. For so many pages, it still felt incomplete. I caved and searched for spoilers and the ending was not at all satisfactory for the way the story was paced. I’m told this is the author’s signature style, so it’s safe to say I will not be picking up others from their catalog. Definitely not for me.”
“I think I could highlight many things about this book, since I really enjoyed listening to it, and every time I listened again to the part where I had stayed. The story still interested me and I wanted to know more about the characters and what would happen next. The protagonist is definitely a different protagonist, since I consider that she had a very unique character and that from the beginning caught my attention a lot and although obviously much of the story focuses on this duality of personalities and how their love story unfolds, despite being so different I consider that one of the things that made me enjoy the most, was definitely how sport was incorporated as part of this story, because it involves you in this train of love towards sport, and how not only our protagonist, but all the Involved in their story also understand this love for their sport. I definitely think that Ivan is definitely a standard man and although I didn’t expect it. That way, I loved the ending, because I think it gave a very nice and very beautiful ending to the story. 🥹🤧⭐️”
