About Mary Shelley
Mary Shelley föddes i London och var dotter till två kända tänkare och författare. Som artonåring skrev hon Frankenstein under en regnig sommar i Schweiz, efter en utmaning från vänner att skriva en skräckhistoria. Boken publicerades 1818 och räknas idag som ett av de tidigaste exemplen på science fiction.
Hennes liv präglades av förlust — hon miste sin mor strax efter födseln, tre av sina fyra barn dog unga, och hennes man Percy Bysshe Shelley drunknade när hon var tjugofyra. Trots allt fortsatte hon skriva, men det är Frankenstein som gjort henne odödlig i litteraturhistorien.
