By Christopher Paolini
Fractal Noise by Christopher Paolini digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A new blockbuster science fiction adventure from world-wide phenomenon and #1 New York Times bestseller Christopher Paolini, set in the world of New York Times and USA Today bestseller To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.

Instant New York Times bestseller

July 25th, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the anomaly.

On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII: a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide.

Its curve not of nature, but design.

Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why.

But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space.

For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Each step they take toward the mysterious abyss is more punishing than the last.

And the ghosts of their past follow.

“A crew is set to explore a hole on another planet. As they embark on their journey, they encounter various discoveries and challenges. However, the pulse emanating from the hole begins to affect their mental state, ultimately leading to disaster. While this is a science fiction story, it also delves into the grief of losing a loved one. The characters were somewhat odd/ unstable Talia started to annoy me. I understand she had her reasons for continuing the journey, but it put human lives at risk. Honestly, she was being selfish. She wanted to learn about the potential threat posed by whatever was in the hole, which I can appreciate. However, there were two team members who were not in good shape to continue. Perhaps she could have considered going back and sending a better-equipped team (since they now understood the challenges) to investigate the hole. But no, her ambition was overwhelming. She wanted her name in history, but at what cost to her teammates' lives? And then there’s Alex. I’m not sure what to make of him. Much of the time, his actions contradicted his thoughts. At least he eventually recognized the need to return, realizing that a human life was in danger. Unfortunately, they couldn't go back, and things took a turn for the worse. Despite these frustrations, I enjoyed the book and wished there had been more insight into the turtles.”
