By Christopher Paolini
Fractal Noise by Christopher Paolini digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

A new blockbuster science fiction adventure from world-wide phenomenon and #1 New York Times bestseller Christopher Paolini, set in the world of New York Times and USA Today bestseller To Sleep in a Sea of Stars.

Instant New York Times bestseller

July 25th, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the anomaly.

On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII: a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide.

Its curve not of nature, but design.

Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why.

But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space.

For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Each step they take toward the mysterious abyss is more punishing than the last.

And the ghosts of their past follow.

Thumbs Up“TW: injury detail, grief, suicidal thoughts, mental illness I actually really enjoyed this book. The first half was definitely a slog to get through, it took me a hot minute to get attached to our main character and understand what’s going on because this is a prequel, which I didn’t bother to look at when I got it, and not a sequel. I was expecting Kira background when I learned it was a prequel but, it’s the mission of Alex Crichton, a name I remembered from the first book because of his last name, and realized we were reading the first official discover Kira and her crew had talked about. While I did enjoy this, it was a lighter book that seemed to miss a lot of important explainable details because near the end things got really weird with no explanation of how we got there. There was also talk of human religion which is something I tend to avoid listening to in general and in a sci-fi novel, is even stranger. Also to note, I didn’t know this book had an AI cover when I got it on Libby because Libby doesn’t have the AI cover. That being said, I’m disappointed an author who writes science fiction novels, (and fantasy as well) would fall to using a method that steals from artists simply because you didn’t want to pay an artist. It’s not affecting my rating, but I would never buy this book for myself or anyone else.”
