Publisher Description

On an uncharted world, happiness is effortless and constant … but can true joy exist without sacrifice?

The people of Meriel have long believed their island world floats alone in the vast ocean universe, so they are astonished when another island drifts into view. With resources becoming scarce, Carya and Brantley quickly volunteer to search the new land for supplies.

After navigating a barrier of menacing trees, the pair encounter a culture of perpetually happy people who readily share their talents and their possessions. But all is not what it seems. At the core of the island is a horror that threatens everyone, including Brantley and Carya.

Freeing the villagers of the bondage they've chosen may cost Carya and Brantley more than they could have imagined. Even if the two succeed, they'll have to find a way to return to Meriel quickly … or be cut off from their home forever.

Slightly Smiling Face“This was a great second instalment of the Dancing Realms series! It did have a bit of a different feel than the first, more adventurous and twisty! I enjoyed seeing Carya grow in her faith, and could relate to her struggles and doubts. One thing I didn’t love is how she committed to being in a relationship with Brantley without her knowing fully if he was a follower of the Maker. As the story continues, we understand that Brantley always did believe in Him, but was angry at him and didn’t know if the Maker cared about him individually. But with how important Carya says her relationship with the Maker is (and given how strong the allegory/Christian references are), I wish Brantley had fully committed to the Maker before they solidified their relationship There are moments of joy and fun in this book, and also moments of sacrifice and grief. I did really enjoy the ending and I’m looking forward to how the characters grow in book three!”
“4.5⭐ I really enjoyed going back into this world of magical dance, but not quite as much as the first book. I think some of the magic of the first book seemed to be missing, but it was still really enjoyable. I love the cult vibes of this and the first book. This one was very creative in the differences in the villages and how their unique talents would come out. I found myself being drawn towards certain villages. I loved how well the different personalities were portrayed pre- and post-convening. The concept of the convenings was very interesting and I was really bothered when the people (and a certain lovable person) lost their ability to love for a time. See this review and more on my Substack about books: https://momsmusings.substack.com/p/forsaken-island-by-sharon-hinck The romance was definitely super slow burn, but really it was super sweet. Both main characters are a little stoic in their own ways, so the time it takes for them to share their affection for each other makes sense for them but I was also getting a little impatient. However, the relationships were well done and I'd feel comfortable with my pre-teen daughters reading this series so far. The pace of the book was in the "cozy" category. I felt that it lagged a little for me, but I think I'm in a fast-paced mood at the moment. It probably would have been just right for my cozy mood :).”
