'A classic whodunit with a contemporary edge' Cecily Von Ziegesar, praise for The Amateurs
Everyone knows Chelsea Dawson. Day and night, her tens of thousands of followers on Instagram watch her every move. So when she goes missing from the sunny beachside town of Lafayette, it makes headlines.
The police are searching everywhere for her kidnapper, but when eighteen-year-old Seneca Frazier sees Chelsea's picture, she knows instantly who took her. Chelsea looks exactly like her friend Aerin Kelly's murdered sister - and Seneca's own mother, who was killed five years ago.
Seneca's suspicions are confirmed when the killer contacts her, threatening to hurt Chelsea if Seneca goes to the police with what she knows. Seneca makes the only move she can, reaching out to Aerin and Maddox and Madison Wright, her friends from Case Not Closed, an amateur crime-solving community. Together they go to Lafayette to work the case, to save Chelsea, and to bring the killer to justice.
But the killer has a plan of his own. He wants Seneca and her friends in Lafayette, but he wants them to play by his rules. One wrong step could mean the end for Chelsea - or the Amateurs.
The second book in the thrilling new crime series from bestselling author Sara Shepard.

“This novel was an extremely frustrating read, the main characters are not equipped to be solving a mystery because they were so dumb I had to put the book down and take a breath. There is one point in the book where Maddox goes you would think it would be easy to find someone you already know and I wholeheartedly agree with him especially when you're going about it in a stupid way. They really thought Brett was a guy that every single one of them talked to and they were just gaslighting themselves into thinking that they missed him being Brett, EVEN THOUGH a big part of Aerin storyline is that she can recognise his eyes anywhere. Like we find out that Brett planted clues to make them think that he was Corey but today saw him and spoke to him surely they would have been able to know it wasn't him. Especially because they are able to recognize Brett without even seeing his whole face but for some reason that's just forgotten.
I was finding it so hard to root for them when they are 0 match for Brett. I would genuinely be surprised if they are able to bring Brett to justice because he isnt Just One step ahead of them he's a whole flight of stairs ahead of them. Also the plot point about the poem I understood what he was saying straight away and it took them a whole chapter to figure it out seriously their no match for him. I'm genuinely on team Brett in this book even though he is horrible and doing horrible things he's just so much smarter than them.
overall a 2/5 only worth reading if you're wanting to finish the series”

About Sara Shepard
For as long as she can remember, Sara Shepard has been writing. However, when she was young she also wanted to be a soap opera star, a designer for LEGO, a filmmaker, a claymation artist, a geneticist, and a fashion magazine editor when she grew up. She and her sister have been creating joint artistic and written projects for years, except they're pretty sure they're the only ones who find them funny.
