“Ugh! I like to give positive reviews of books, but I'm struggling with this one.
I would like to read some of Paige Toon's books. I have the Kindle version of Seven Summers, which I was saving for the summer holidays.
In the meantime, while I was looking for an audiobook, I saw this available. I thought I would listen to it whilst out on my daily walks.
I felt the writing overly descriptive. There is one idea... "In five years time, you'll know why this happened" and so we get a glimpse of Nell's life every five years whilst she manages to sleep with every bloke in the book, including her step brother. Also, the number of times God's name is taken in vain is terrible.
There are some nice ideas in the book. There's art, surfing, a book shop, a scenic setting (Cornwall).
The narrators voice got on my nerves.
Now I'm wondering if "Seven Summers" is going to have a similar theme 🙄 If so, I might just switch up my summer reading 🤔
I probably should have dnf'd this book, but my curiosity got the better of me.
If there are any other books by Paige that anyone here reading would like to recommend, I am open-minded about trying again.”
