ByPublisher Description
REESE’S BOOK CLUB PICK | #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
“This fast-paced read has everything you could want in a thriller: secret identities, a mysterious boss and a cat & mouse game that kept me guessing the whole way through.” —Reese Witherspoon
Evie Porter has everything a nice Southern girl could want: a doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence, a tight group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist.
The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss, Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.
Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job isn't like the others. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes—especially after what happened last time.
Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there's still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn't be higher—but then, Evie has always liked a challenge. . . .

“not your typical “thriller” reader so this book was super enjoyable for me! I think it’s a great segue into the genre; super fast paced and easy to finish! Definitely will be seeking out more FMC spy fiction!
I definitely thought Ryan was a spy and then Mr.Smith as I was going through, so I wouldn’t say this story is too predictable unless you can make the connection of George and Mr.smith giving her advice.”

“The premise of 'First Lie Wins' was fantastic, and the book delivered! I loved the plot, with its twists and turns – a breath of fresh air for the thriller genre. The character development and reveals were well-paced, and the flashbacks were perfectly timed. It felt like watching a captivating TV series, which I enjoyed.
However, something kept me from fully connecting. Maybe it was the writing? Despite the interesting plot, I found myself losing interest at times. It wasn't that the story dragged, but I didn't feel fully engaged with the characters. I didn't root for the protagonist as much as I expected to. The pacing was steady, but slow.
Overall, it's a good read, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're trying to break out of a reading slump or if you're new to reading.”
