Fireborne
ByPublisher Description
"One of fantasy’s best series." —Booklist, starred review
Game of Thrones meets Fourth Wing in a debut young adult fantasy that's full of rivalry, romance . . . and dragons.
Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders.
Now they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn't be more different. Annie's lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee's aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet.
But everything changes when survivors from the old regime surface, bent on reclaiming the city.
With war on the horizon and his relationship with Annie changing fast, Lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to betray everything he's come to believe in. And Annie must decide whether to protect the boy she loves . . . or step up to be the champion her city needs.
From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question which matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you've chosen.

“🎧📖 // A bit of a slow start, but overall a really solid YA novel! This was more politics heavy than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise. The topics of revolution, class warfare, internal struggles, friendship, forgiveness, atonement, etc. were all handled with a level of nuance that I honestly wasn't expecting from a YA book. The characters all felt wonderfully fleshed-out; their friendships, rivalries, connections with their dragons, and internal conflicts all felt so believable and I love how even the unlikeable characters have traits/backstories that you can empathize with. Annie and Lee are amazing leads and their starkly different histories makes for such a fascinating dynamic. They're both so likeable and so easy to empathize with that I wasn't sure who to root for in the tournaments because I wanted both of them to succeed 🥲 The romance is extremely slow-burn and is very much secondary to the plot, which I personally find refreshing.
Only things I found lackluster were the battle scenes and the characters' relationships with their dragons. What was there in regards to the characters and their connections with their dragons was so intriguing, and I really wish the author expanded upon it a little more.”
