“The cover of Fink initially drew me in as I love his dark clown look and I was chuffed to find out he was a contract killer. I love a good serial killer romance.
Fink is a great character. He’s a cold blooded killer for hire, set in his ways and likes being on his own, until Sydney marches into his latest job and completely throws him off his game. I enjoyed how eager Sydney is and just completely inserts herself into Fink’s life. She’s confident, stubborn and funny. The chemistry between Fink and Sydney is instant and I loved their relationship.
This was a quick easy read, that was dark and funny. There’s some spice which had potential but unfortunately the choice of some of the words did make me cringe a little at times and ruin the moment.
Overall, this was a 4⭐️ read and I recommend it if you enjoy dark romance with a humorous twist.”
“I went in with high hopes, and the opening absolutely delivered—killer in a clown costume, a chaotic murder meet-cute, and spice with major Joker/Harley vibes.
When Sydney tries to quit her toxic job, she walks in on Fink murdering her boss—and instead of running, she grabs a letter opener and helps finish the job. From there, their connection is immediate, messy, and spicy.
The beginning was strong - unpredictable, high-energy. I loved how Sydney forced her way into Fink’s world and refused to leave—the tension, chemistry, and “will they get caught?” Had me engaged.
But the pacing starts to drag, and the chaos that made the opening so fun fades. I wanted more action and unpredictability, and some word choices pulled me out of the story.
Overall, a super strong, chaotic start with a fun concept, but it didn’t fully deliver what I expected.

Ever since I was a toddler, I’ve been afraid of clowns. And since I first read Victoria’s work, I’ve been devouring every release to date. Imagine with me, the conflict of seeing her WIP updates were about a killer clown couple…BUT(!), I knew I was going to have to read it no matter what 😅 Thank god I put my fears aside and read this one, because it may be my favorite book of Victoria’s to date, or at least tied with Queen of Blades!
I loved how the chemistry of this couple sparked from their very unconventional “meet cute”. I absolutely loved watching level-headed, grumpy Fink lose his every loving mind over Sydney. He was cautious and stoic about it in a lot of ways, but our man started making rash decisions and doing things he never would have dreamed of as soon as he saw his match in our Killer Clown Queen. And Sydney, I loved how she was so giggly and such a happy presence, especially during the most brutal of times. She was exactly what Fink needed to brighten up his life a bit.
I absolutely loved the forced proximity bits of having to stay together to hide out and stay low from the cops, and how she was able to win him over to being her murder mentor, or murder buddy 😊 I loved how from the start she set the rule that they would have to be honest with each other, even if that meant not saying anything in favor of telling a lie. Because of this, they had such a great foundation to build upon from the very beginning.
Do not get me wrong, as romantic and hilarious as this book was, these were not good people. These were not vigilantes taking out the worst of the worst, they were contract killers who didn’t necessarily care who the target was as long as they got paid and survived. With that said, I loved the depth and darkness this brought to the characters since they were not redeemable at all times.

This was so insane! It is dark and twisted but I loved it! It has some spice and it will have you locked in. I loved the story of Fink and Sydney! It was intense!”
“I went into this one fully aware of the premise, killer clowns who murder people, a woman who storms into her boss’s office planning to resign but ends up with blood on her hands, and a grumpy contract killer in face paint named Fink who suddenly finds himself obsessed.
The blurb had me at “murder is their foreplay,” and honestly? It delivers exactly what it promises, but with more chaotic charm than I expected.
Sydney is the sunshine to Fink’s grumpy storm cloud. She’s bold, impulsive, and surprisingly resilient once the adrenaline (and literal blood) hits. Walking in on (and inadvertently assisting in) a hit flips her world upside down, but instead of running screaming, she leans into the madness. Her red wig and clown makeup moments are hilarious, and the “what have I gotten myself into?” energy.
Fink, on the other hand, is the definition of morally gray character. He’s been in a rut, just going through the motions of hits, until Sydney crashes his carefully controlled world. The way he shifts from detached professional to possessive, hungry for more obsession is delicious.
The face paint and clown aesthetic could have felt gimmicky, but leaning all the way in, making the killer clown vibe feel strangely seductive rather than cartoonish. Their chemistry is off the charts, steamy scenes are spicy, creative, and laced with that dark edge where danger and desire blur.
What surprised me most was how well the dark romantic comedy balance works. Yes, there’s violence, moral ambiguity, and high stakes tension (being together is absolutely a liability), but there’s also sharp humor, ridiculous situations born from the clown motif, and moments of genuine connection that keep it from feeling too bleak. It’s unhinged in the best way blood slicked chaos that still manages to be fun and oddly romantic.
The “how long can they keep playing this game?” question drives the plot effectively. The push/pull between their undeniable pull and the very real dangers of their lifestyle creates solid tension without dragging.
It’s billed as a standalone, and it feels complete while leaving just enough of that addictive vibe that you wouldn’t mind more in this world.
If you’re into dark romance with a heavy side of absurdity, grumpy/sunshine dynamics, and characters who are enthusiastically unhinged together, Fink is a wild, entertaining ride. It’s not trying to be profound, it’s trying to be spicy, funny, and a little deranged, and it succeeds.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely, especially if you like your romance with a side of “schmurder” and clown paint. Just know it leans hard into the dark comedy elements, so if killer clowns (even hot ones) are a hard no for you, maybe skip. Otherwise, dive in.
