“I started reading this book last year during Christmas and only got to finishing it today. Fifth Business has been regarded as a philosophical fictional tale and while reading the book I realized it perfectly depicts the plight of mankind on earth.
Dunstan is overwhelmed with guilt when a snowball meant for him hits Mary Dempster who goes into premature labour delivering a baby boy who is mentally unstable. She herself loses her sanity and is shunned by the society and her husband. Dunstan feels the guilt of it all throughout his childhood and even carries it to his adulthood.
It is a touching story and heartbreaking as well. I loved the plot twist at the end and I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series.”

Robertson Davies (1913-1995) had three successive careers during the time he became an internationally acclaimed author: actor, publisher, and, finally, professor at the University of Toronto. The author of twelve novels and several volumes of essays and plays, he was the first Canadian to be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
