“Beautifully written and very well structured. Every character has their own backstory and identity. Nothing is too cliché or overwhelming or not written properly. I spent everyday reading it day and night, i really couldn't stop. I loved every second of reading this book. Even if it has a lot of politics in it (well duh), all of it is written well and the reader can easily follow even if there are a lot of characters involved and a lot is going on. The characters are all very human with human emotions and reactions.
I only read the english translation and i'm not very familiar with the specific history of this time period, but even the author herself asked to be forgiving if there are any historical discrepancies in the story. It is fictional after all. Absolutely would recommend, 10/10.
(Also, the english translation by Melts and Eiko is very good and they added a lot of translation notes to help english readers fully understand the story by explaining the original chinese characters used in names, chinese puns, the original chapter titles, etc.)”
