Fatal
ByPublisher Description
John Lescroart’s latest spectacular New York Times bestseller explores the unexpected and shattering consequences of a one-night stand on a seemingly happily married couple—a “dark, disturbing, satisfying read” (San Francisco Chronicle) that asks us to consider how much we really know about the lives of our closest friends.
Fatal is John Lescroart’s most highly acclaimed and biggest selling book in recent years. As the Huffington Post raves, “Lescroart is a master storyteller as he knows how to craft a plot and how to create fully developed characters. In both of these departments, this book comes across as one of his best works.”
When Kate Jameson confesses to her oldest friend, Beth Tully, that she’s obsessing about a married man she just met, Beth is alarmed. As a San Francisco police detective, Beth has seen time and again the destructive repercussions of infidelity. But Kate, despite her happy marriage and two wonderful children, can’t get Peter Ash out of her head and initiates one intense sexual encounter. Confident that her life can now return to normal, Kate never considers that Peter may not be so willing to move on.
Six months later, Peter Ash’s body washes up on a beach, and Beth is assigned the case. As the pool of suspects narrows and the mystery of who Peter Ash became during the final months of his life deepens, Beth is forced to see that the prime suspect might have been right in front of her the entire time.
Fatal is fresh proof that John Lescroart is “a true master of the craft” (Associated Press) whose picture should be “printed beside the definition of ‘spellbinding’ in the dictionary” (Suspense Magazine).

“Okay, I am going to get a little graphic for a second. If you're a prude, feel free to leave this review now....
You still here?? Good....so this book was like a big build up: almost there, oh yes, right there, oh yeah baby, here it comes, almost therrreeeee.....then nothing. What?? No climax? I'm not left spent, with a complete sense of satisfaction?!? I frigging couldn't stop reading this, thinking there was going to be some big, great ending....HAHA -- nope!!!
We start out with two women, best friends since college, chatting together during a weekly walk. Kate reveals to Beth a feeling she has about a particular man. Peter and Jill are a couple, whom Kate and her husband, Ron, have met at the house of Ron's best friend and business partner, Geoff. Kate alludes to the idea of an affair with Peter. A little while after this chat with Kate and Beth, the affair takes place. A tragedy happens shortly after this encounter. Then jump ahead 6 months later, and things start to get "interesting."
The writing was good, the story was interesting, and the build up was awesome. But if you're looking for satisfaction or anything similar, don't expect much.
I think what I liked most about this book is the author's writing. He wrote in a way that left bread crumbs for the reader. He took, what seemed to be insignificant parts, and made them very relevant to the overall story. Some characters were underdeveloped. Others were written perfectly. But in the end, he really pissed me off. I know that all books I read are not going to have an ending I am content with. But geez! Give me at least a little pickle-tickle or something.
I typically review a 4* book because of the great suspense and even greater ending. I think the reason I chose to review this so high was the aforementioned above, and also how this book is going to make me think and think on it for days to come.
Now, excuse me while I try to move past this and maybe onto some more foreplay with, hopefully, better, gratifying results. ;)”

“Great book! I found Fatal, to be suspenseful, fast-paced and enthralling. The novel shows how one single act can have tremendous and devastating consequences. The book is filled with compelling twists and turns, which kept me guessing until the very end. A definite page turner that kept me guessing until the end. This is the first book I have read by Lescroart, but it will definitely not be my last. If you like fast-pace and clever thrillers, you will enjoy this book.
A HUGE, thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing me with an ARC of the book in exchange for my honest opinion.”

“2.5 stars.
I like my crime thrillers dark and twisted. I want my crime thrillers to make me feel uncomfortable. Fatal was none of those things, if Fatal was made into a movie or tv show it would be on network tv and I like my crime thrillers to be of HBO, Showtime, or Netflix quality.
Fatal was predictable I knew who the killer was before the victim even died it was just that predictable. I was really disappointed, I've heard great things about author John Lescroart but if his other books are anything like Fatal l think I'll pass.”
