“I first read this book in high school. I decided to reread to see if I still liked it and I can honestly say it is as good as I remember. This book is a compilation of letters written by a girl in Appalachia to multiple family members over her lifetime. She mostly writes to her dead sister, who she grieves her entire life. These letters are more confessional and resemble personal journal entries. If you enjoy stories about families and oral histories, this book is for you. Ivy’s life has it all-happiness and tragedy, ordinary life duties and life changing events-all explained in her voice which is brutally honest and at times humorous.”
