“Loved this book, and I hear it’s the worst in the series. Pace can be a bit slow, but I thoroughly enjoyed the cast of characters and the prose throughout. I found myself highlighting so many passages for interesting turns of phrase, etc. in a way I don’t see in other fantasy.
This was Dune meets… idk Merlin or something.
I had to get used to the memoir POV, but I think it will turn out to be an interesting device. I’m sure we’ll be misled along the way in some way. I’m excited and I’m in for the long haul.
A bit late to this series, but if you liked Red Rising I think you shouldn’t expect the same thing at all, but you should be prepared for maybe Red Rising meets Dune in an easier to read package.”

Christopher Ruocchio is the internationally award-winning author of The Sun Eater, a space opera fantasy series, and the former Junior Editor at Baen Books, where he edited several anthologies. His work has also appeared in Marvel comics. He is a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he studied English Rhetoric and the Classics. Christopher has been writing since he was eight and sold his first novel, Empire of Silence, at twenty-two. His books have appeared in five languages. Christopher lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife, Jenna.
