“"Living people need to care about things. Keeps you human. Keeps you alive. And that’s my job, you know. Keeping you alive. Not just living.”
The title alone was enough to capture my curiosity but the subtle world-building held my attention. I think the great thing about this story was how it played with the finality of death but also touched on the difference between being alive and living and what humanity means, especially to a body merc like Nev. Nev was so laser-focused on his collection of bodies and his occupation that he was 'living' on auto-pilot for God's eye only knows how long. Losing Falid like he and Tera did then coming so very close to losing Tera herself? Hurley explored those bonds and losses so cleverly that the end was so satisfying- easily one of my favorites!”
