Earth

By David Brin
Earth by David Brin digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Scientist Alex Lustig has created a tiny, yet very destructive, problem—a microscopic black hole that he accidentally dropped into Earth's core. Now, racing to keep it from consuming the planet, he begins to suspect something even stranger is going on. Something linked to civilization's expanding information web. And with the planet overpopulated and neglect taking its toll on the environment, there are those who demand a harsh solution: that Mother Earth would be better off without humanity at all . . .

Earth Reviews

3.5
“Very dense and science heavy, which was very difficult for my non-science brain. Again, he’s chosen to include so many characters that I was often flipping back and forth to remember who was who. I felt no urgency to finish this book and probably should have DNF’d but I was intrigued but the aliens, a sub plot that went nowhere. I get the focus of the book was earth and its inhabitants but I wanted there to be aliens. The main plot event of this book (Jen becoming earth) was very similar to a major plot event of his book Heart of the Comet (the one character becoming the computer), which came out 3 years before this. Having already read that, the reveal in this book fell flat.”
“It was a going along as science fiction then suddenly took a turn into fantasy and Gaia became sentient. Almost like the author didn't know how to finish the black hole in Earth story. And made it about something else all together.”
