Early Warning opens in 1953 with the Langdon family at a crossroads. “Very similar to book one Early Warning explores the always growing Langdon family. The kids from book 1 now are grown and having children of their own and are starting their own lives. Each chapter is a year in there lives and we see the political and societal struggles they face. We end in the mid 1980s.
It’s a little dull at some points just because there’s so many characters at this point and much of the story is driven with political talk, but in the end it’s interesting to see how each of their lives differ and how they grow.”

JANE SMILEY is the author of numerous novels, including A Thousand Acres, which was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, and most recently, Some Luck, the first volume of The Last Hundred Years trilogy, long-listed for the National Book Award. She is also the author of five works of nonfiction and a series of books for young adults. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, she has also received the PEN Center USA Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature. She lives in Northern California.
