“I listened to the audiobook of Dubliners and I feel I missed the hype maybe I need to read the physical book to understand the gravity that so many weigh on this collection of short stories, I certainly can’t see what the controversy was surrounding it whilst Joyce was attempting to get it published. I just found it very “meh” stories are not really about anything and end (what feels like) unfinished or cut off every single time. I read a review which stated if you are not moved to tears by the dead then there is something wrong with you, but it’s about a confession of a young love, the memory of which is brought up upon hearing a song sang by an old friend, I’m sorry but if my wife after twenty years of marriage and having three children out of the blue broke down and was inconsolable from hearing a song a lover had sang when they were seventeen and he had died and she still held on to that with that much weight I wouldn’t be moved to tears and emotional for her I would be asking why the hell is this the first I’m hearing of it and if you love me as you say you do why has this affected you so much but maybe that’s a me issue 😂. Anyway I will read the physical book to see if it lives up to the hype but for now I am extremely disappointed and annoyed I wasted a credit”
