Publisher Description

The Future Never Sleeps

In the glacial nation of Norgard, Jolan the dream teller serves every seeker, whether peasant or high lord. Though she loves using her gift, she struggles to navigate the corrupt and dangerous court and the jealousies of the Guildagard.

When an old man's nightmare imparts a dire warning, Jolan realizes her entire nation is in danger. But before she can sound the alarm, she is betrayed by the guilds and sold into slavery in a rival kingdom far to the south. As a slave in a foreign land, at first Jolan can't see beyond her singular focus: return home to warn Norgard of the coming calamity. After facing new dangers, making new friends, and forgiving old wrongs, she must fulfill the purposes the Provider has set before her.

Only then can she face a decision that could cost her the man she loves, her calling, and her freedom—all to save a people who abandoned her.

“Dream of Kings is a retelling of Joseph in a fantasy setting. Jolan, a woman who can read and interpret people's dreams, finds herself kidnapped and sent to another land, Sabor, where she must maneuver slavery and later court intrigue as she rises to power. In order to protect both Sabor and her homeland of Nordgard, she must learn to forgive and seek relationship with the Provider. The message in the story was honestly one of the strongest Christian themes I've read in contemporary literature in a while. Hinck beautifully shows the power of relationship with God and the need to use our spiritual gifts wisely through this story. I found it very powerful and it encouraged me greatly. This book is what Christian art should be: beautiful storytelling with compelling themes from the Word of God. The characters were also excellently written. Three-dimensional and likable, Jolan stands out from usual fantasy or romance heroines with her maturity and widowhood. She seemed like a real person with real struggles, and I could completely relate to her. She is one of the few heroines I could actually point to and say "this woman could be a role model for younger women to follow." Her struggle through growing closer to the Provider was woven excellently through the story and touched me in a way few character arcs have been able to do these days. Kamor is also an admirable character—an excellent hero who has his own flaws, which is rare for a love interest. He contrasts with Cimeran for his honesty and devotion to virtue. As for the King of Sabor, Hinck excellently portrayed his complexity as a ruler and greyer character. My only complaint would be that the desire for revenge could have been incorporated earlier to make the message against it all the stronger. It seemed to rather come in within the last few chapters. By perhaps making it more of a defining aspect of Jolan's life, it would have been all the more powerful when Jolan rejected vengeance for forgiveness. But the symbolism of the bitter cup was quite well-done. Overall, I read this book at a moment when I most needed it. For a fantasy novel, it shows theological depth in a way that touched my soul. I look forward to reading more of Hinck's novels!”
“I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up this book. I had never read fantasy before and I wanted to give it a try. I am so glad I did!! I loved every minute of this book. It’s a fantasy retelling of Joseph’s story. I loved figuring out how it connected Joseph’s story and travelling to another world! Jolan’s desire to honour God with her gift no matter what pulled me in. I needed to know how she was going to respond to the challenges she faced! I grieved when I finished the story and it will stay with me for a long time.”
“Those vivid dreams you have? Maybe the ones you know you dreamt but just can’t quite remember the details? Enter Jolan the Dream Teller from the kingdom of Norgard who serves those who seek answers. This stand alone novel is another brilliant world full of intrigue, danger, political maneuvering, deception, action, romance and fantastic characters woven on a tapestry of spiritual truths from the Provider. @sharonhinck has done a masterful job of taking biblical themes and stories to help us navigate how to respond when life seems to keep dishing out hardships and injustices and not lose our faith or purpose in the process. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this latest book from my dear friend Sharon. I know you will too! #dreamofkings #sharonhinck #enclavepublishing #fantasyfiction”
