Dragon Keeper

By Robin Hobb
Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

“Robin Hobb is one of our very best fantasy writers.”
New York Times bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson

With Dragon Keeper, Robin Hobb, critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling “master fantasist” (Baltimore Sun), begins a breathtaking  new series about the resurgence of dragons in a world that both needs and fears them—the world Hobb’s readers most recently visited in her immensely popular “Tawny Man” trilogy. Volume One of the Rain Wilds Chronicles, Dragon Keeper is yet another magnificent adventure from the author of  The Soldier Son and Farseer Trilogies, confirming the Contra Costa Times of California’s assessment of Hobb as “one of the most important writers in 21st century fantasy.”

Thinking Face“OHHH that cliffhanger. Oh boy. Sedric what have you done. As is usual with Robin Hobb books, I find myself really detesting some of her characters. Hest needs a swift kick to the teeth, Sedric needs to just ditch Hest and go find himself a nice man somewhere, Alise needs to be the person delivering that swift kick to Hest and run off with the smelly captain, Thymara needs to accept the fact that she essentially volunteered to be exiled and doesn't have to follow anyone's rules, Tats needs to actually talk to Thymara, Sintara needs to get off her high horse, and Erek and Detozi need to meet in real life. thank you for coming to my ted talk. This book took me a while to get into, but i'm glad I finished it and now i must immediately get the next one.”
Thumbs Up“Good to be back in this world, even if this book is nothing special. I hear it’s supposed to be closer to a duology than 4 separate books, but since I have to judge this on its own, it felt a little incomplete in terms of a story. That being said, I did enjoy it the whole way through and look forward to picking up the next one. The world continues to be really interesting, the characters written extremely well, and the threads between series fun to follow. We haven’t reached Regal/Kyle/etc levels of vile yet, but in typical Hobb fashion, I already deeply dislike several characters. The story, while very slow-developing and this book serving as a lot of setup for the rest, is going to be fascinating in where it takes us over the course of the series. Hobb’s writing is always a standout, and I’m happy to be back with it after a couple-months hiatus post-Fool’s Fate. I expect to pick up the next book soon!”
Slightly Smiling Face“It was nice to be back in bingtown and the rain wilds, but I felt a bit bummed about leaving fitz and the fool again. However returning to this part of the world and learning about the new characters was nice but it did take me a while to get through this book. Just like the liveship traders trilogy, Robin Hobb does an excellent job fleshing out characters and giving them real stories that expand on the world building. For example thymaras back story explored the lives of rain wild folks and that was really interesting. As well with hest and sedrics story was an interesting surprise. I like that Robin Hob tackles misogyny and sexism in her stories, which I think a lot of male fantasy authors don’t really consider. And for that I really love how Robin Hobb is able to include difficult topics into a beautifully developed fantasy book. Overall I’m excited to continue reading and learning more about the dragons and what’s in store for them and their keepers.”
