“This is dark, sad and funny all at the same time. Written from the perspective of a child (Tochtli), Villalobos is able to inject some humor into a what would objectively be characterized as a “devastating” (if you read the book, you’ll know why the use of that specific word was intended) landscape.
The major theme here is the tragedy of how a child, through no fault of their own, can be broken simply through the corruption of the world they are brought up to live in. This is obviously done in the most extreme of ways. But it works. This was an entertaining and very unique read.”
