“I got duped by a local book shop employee that recommended this as more of a “dystopian take on capitalism” which is what I was looking for, but it’s more of a weird kinky, fantasy, erotic story trying to be a love story in a dystopian world, and that’s just not what I was looking for.
Maybe I should have done more research prior to starting the book, but I like to go in blind with as little information as possible, except i was so intent on reading a dystopian novel, the extreme sex scenes really threw me for a loop.
Also wasn’t a fan of the switching POVs, especially the ones trying to humanize the abuser. Just felt icky reading those chapters. Bottom line, this story was not for me.”
“Debtors become Dociles to Patrons who can pay their debts by following their Patron’s orders. Dociline is a med that makes getting through their time bearable. Elisha is a debtor who chooses to refuse Dociline while signed to Alex, Dociline creator. Docile goes through their journey of living and adjusting to each other and falling in love. This book had me captivated and so interested in where Elisha and his mother would end up. I did find myself wanting more with the ending. It felt so rushed through the court process and I wanted it to last longer!”
