Disconnected Kids: The Groundbreaking Brain Balance Program for Children with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Other Neurological Disorders
ByPublisher Description
A proven drug-free program addressing the cause—not just the symptoms—of Autism Spectrum Disorders and related conditions.
Each year, an estimated 1.5 million children are diagnosed with autism, Asperger’s syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. But even as rates rise, diagnosis and treatment have not changed in 50 years. Since psychiatric drugs, given to more than 20% of elementary school children today, don’t cure them, doctors tell parents these dysfunctions will never disappear.
Enter Dr. Robert Melillo and his new understanding of the causes of these disorders: a disconnection between the left and right sides of the developing brain. His revolutionary Brain Balance™ program has achieved documented results, dramatically improving children’s and families’ quality of life. Since 1998, nearly 1,000 children have completed the Brain Balance™ program with remarkable success—behavioral, emotional, academic, and social. Written in an accessible style, Disconnected Kids shows parents how to use this drug- free approach at home, with customizable exercises for physical, sensory, and academic performance, advice for behavior modification, information on foods to avoid, and a follow-up program for lasting results.

“Disconnected Kids introduced some interesting ideas, especially about primitive reflexes and how they may influence learning, behavior, and development. It gave me a new perspective and encouraged me to learn more about the topic.
For me, though, the book felt repetitive and could have been much shorter. I also would have appreciated more practical, step-by-step guidance and a stronger discussion of the evidence behind some of the claims. At times, it spent more time explaining why than how.
Overall, I’m glad I read it because it sparked my interest in primitive reflex integration and gave me a foundation to continue learning. I don’t agree with everything presented, but I think it’s a decent starting point for parents and professionals who are curious about the topic and willing to read it with a critical eye.”
“I never finished. The first part of the book talks about how kids with neurological disorders are dumb. I find that horrible .As a former special education teacher, I've seen how smart and talented those kids are. They have amazing knowledge. They just don't think in the same way as "normal" people.
he says these disorders are on the raise... but I think it's not that there are more cases....just that we now have a label for it.
over all what I read of this book was just a sales pitch for his program centers to 'cure' your child because you, as a parent, clearly are the reason they are different.
don't waste your time. if you want to read a book with actual value, go read the 'whole Brained Child '”
“This is an exhaustive review of the Brain Balance program that really broke down the process, science and reasoning in a way that anyone can understand! It was definitely a LOT to take in, especially as it contained lists upon lists describing the discrepancies between left and right brain deficiencies and the evaluations for each. I definitely lost track plenty of times.
I liked how Melillo's explanations never failed to be approachable and as an open-minded reader, I didn't ever feel like his writing was condescending.
There is so much to take away from this and I will definitely be revisiting it. I think my favorite sections were those on nutrition and the impact of music and art as therapy.”
