“I listened to the audiobook version of this, so my opinions may vary from those who read it.
What I found in this book was an exciting continuation of the High Republic era’s story. It featured Avon, a personal favorite, along with Vernestra, Xylan (and his adorable dog!), Jordanna, Sylvestri, and bit parts by Reath, Azlin, Elzar, Yoda, Imri, etc.
As usual, the inclusion of Justina Ireland as an author made the book better. She is excellent at writing MG and YA Star Wars books, and I’m always excited when she’s involved.
If you’ve read other books from the High Republic, you undoubtedly know about the Nameless and the Blight. This book introduces the threat of the Blight, while also exploring a mission to cross the Stormwall, then return home again.
Xylan Graf might be a self-centered jerk most of the time, but he always has the best lines. Hearing them read aloud caused me to laugh several times. Plinka has an adorable personality, so it’s always a bonus when he plays a role.
Will the trip across the Stormwall enable them to rescue more people? Or will they themselves get stuck in the Occlusion Zone? The best part of the book, though? The epilogue. And now, I’m so looking forward to the next book, Tears of the Nameless! I’ve only got three more books before the era comes to a close.”
