Deep Water

By Patricia Highsmith
Deep Water by Patricia Highsmith digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

Now a major motion picture starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas
In Deep Water, set in the quiet, small town of Little Wesley, Patricia Highsmith has created a vicious and suspenseful tale of love gone sour.

Vic and Melinda Van Allen's loveless marriage is held together only by a precarious arrangement whereby, in order to avoid the messiness of divorce, Melinda is allowed to take any number of lovers as long as she does not desert her family. Eventually, Vic can no longer suppress his jealousy and tries to win back his wife by asserting himself through a tall tale of murder—one that soon comes true. In this complex portrayal of a dangerous psychosis emerging in the most unlikely of places, Highsmith examines the chilling reality behind the idyllic facade of American suburban life.

Deep Water Reviews

“Local man kills cheating wife and her boyfriends after he accepted the affairs for quite a while. I don't know what was the reason to write this book, it could've been a great story but was full of pointless narrations. The main character was so pretentious and flat at the same time that I couldn't even understand as to why he started the killing. Yeah, your wife cheated on you several times but it can be considered cheating even though you knew about them? He could've asked for a divorce. He was better than anyone else only because he knew Mozart by heart and had a small business that wasn't making any money but it was okay because he had daddy's money? The only victims here are Trixie and the dog. This book could've been a divorce case.”
