“It was bit of a slow start for me as there was a hefty chunk of world building and not too much romantic interactions. Lowkey I thought this was going to be kind of gay considering that the FMC’s closest bonds were between women.
But once they started to interact, they really flipped the script with the woman being the shadow mommy pursing the MMC.
And both being POC MC?! My fav.
Like once they got a hold of each other, they were FREAKED out like I was kicking my feet and giggling and shit.
That was pretty short lived and bam, back to plot and narrative.
It ends on a very open ended cliff hanger which kind of has me antsy because the cliff isn’t small.
Overall, a really solid fantasy with a side of romance.

“I have not read a fantasy book since high school, so I was really excited to get to read the arc for this! This book was so captivating that I might just need to get back into the genre again.
The world building was very immersive, I loved the dark desert location and atmospheric descriptions. The first third of the book was a slow build, as there was so much back story to set up, but it did not feel boring in any way. I liked that there was a pronnuniation guide and glossary to refer to, I very much appreciated that in the beginning as it could be confusing at times.
The two main characters were very well written, and you truly felt for them throughout their POV's. I really enjoyed Apattar as the FMC, she was so fierce & tantalizing. If you like a dark & slow burn fantasy, definitely add this to your tbr. I am looking forward to the next in the series.”

Daughter of the Dark Sun is not a light, breezy read. It demands your full attention. The main characters are broken and angry, their shadows a physical representation of the struggle in their hearts. That being said, this book is worth the read. It’s worth the time and thought to follow the journey. I loved that this book had romance and some spice, but that wasn’t the central theme. There isn’t some random quick fix that solves all the trials that Therat and Apattar face. They truly are tortured souls trying to find their way, and I loved that. I can’t wait for the next book to see where their path leads next. I recommend checking the content warnings as always.”
