“A major talent.” —Stephen King

Halloween, 1963. They call him the October Boy, or Ol' Hacksaw Face, or Sawtooth Jack. Whatever the name, everybody in this small Midwestern town knows who he is. How he rises from the cornfields every Halloween, a butcher knife in his hand, and makes his way toward town, where gangs of teenage boys eagerly await their chance to confront the legendary nightmare. Both the hunter and the hunted, the October Boy is the prize in an annual rite of life and death.

Pete McCormick knows that killing the October Boy is his one chance to escape a dead-end future in this one-horse town. He's willing to risk everything, including his life, to be a winner for once. But before the night is over, Pete will look into the saw-toothed face of horror—and discover the terrifying true secret of the October Boy.

Dark Harvest Reviews

3.0
“Dark Harvest by Norman Partridge is a short horror story set in a small Midwestern town where they have this weird Halloween tradition every year. Teen boys have to hunt down the October Boy, a creepy pumpkin-headed guy who has to make it to the town church before midnight. The winner gets a prize, but there's way darker stuff going on behind the scenes that the town keeps secret. The story really captures that Halloween vibe, with spooky images, some violence, and a feel like an old folk tale. Partridge builds a creepy world full of mystery and tension, and the October Boy is a pretty unforgettable horror character. But since it's pretty short, not all the characters or story details are their full depth. The pacing is pretty fast and exciting, though sometimes it feels a little rushed. Overall, Dark Harvest is a fun, spooky read with a unique idea and great atmosphere. It’s a good pick for horror fans, especially around Halloween, but it doesn’t quite reach that ‘classic’ level of memorability.”
