Publisher Description

Some stories are all about the crime. These stories are about the maelstrom of what happens after...

A hard-bitten crew of professional thieves pull off the score of their lives, coming away with seven million in cash. Like any heist there are some unforeseen complications, and unfortunately they don’t get away without a few bodies dropping. But despite this, they get away with the swag. Seven million. Enough to change their lives, make new identities, start fresh. But that’s when the real trouble begins... In this unique, riveting, linked anthology, we follow each member of the crew of culprits as they go their separate ways after the heist, and watch as this perfect score ends up a perfect nightmare. Featuring stories penned by acclaimed writers Brett Battles, Gar Anthony Haywood, Zoë Sharp, Manuel Ramos, Jessica Kaye, Joe Clifford and David Corbett, CULPRITS examines what happens next to these criminals once they take their cut and go their separate ways, only to find that the end of the heist was the beginning of their troubles.

“Culprits is one wild ride through the aftermath of the perfect heist. Picture this: A group of seasoned thieves pulls off the score of a lifetime, walking away with seven million bucks in cash. But, as any crime lover knows, it's not the heist that makes a story great—it's what happens after the crime. After their big score, the crew should be living the dream. New identities, fresh starts..hell, maybe even a yacht or two. But instead, they’re left drowning in a swamp of bad decisions, tangled alliances, and unexpected consequences. Culprits isn't about how the job went down; it's about the chaos that follows when the money is in hand and everyone starts playing a dangerous game of “what’s next?” What makes Culprits so gripping is that it’s not just one story but a collection of linked tales, each focusing on a different member of the crew. Each story pulls you deeper into the mess of greed, betrayal, and the horrifying realiSation that the heist wasn’t the hard part, it’s surviving after the score. From the moment the cash is in their hands, things spiral into a nightmare of trust issues, shady deals, and bad luck. Everyone has their own idea of how to spend their new fortune, but as the crew splits up, they each learn the hard way that their “perfect” escape plan isn’t so perfect after all. The authors do an excellent job of weaving together individual character arcs, each with its own flavoUr of regret and misfortune. And while you might start with sympathy for the crew, don’t expect that to last long. These criminals aren’t exactly winning any “good guy” awards, but boy, do they keep you hooked! In short, if you love crime fiction with twists and moral grey areas, Culprits is your new best friend. It's fast-paced, sharp, and packed with that delicious post-heist tension.”
“3 ⭐️ Thank you to Datura books for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The concept of this book immediately drew me in, as it’s so unique: a heist that ends with guns being fired, followed by short stories by different authors from the various perspectives of those involved. It reminded me a lot of the Netflix show Kaleidoscope, which I really enjoyed. Many of the short stories were self-contained; once you’d read the heist, you could read many of the stories in any old order and it would still make sense. To say that different authors contributed - presumably with different writing styles - it felt really cohesive and well put together. However, the number of characters and the intricacies of the plot (particularly for such a short book) made it quite hard to follow at points. Some stories stuck with me a lot more than others (my personal favourite was that of the Financier’s).”
