Crybaby Bridge: Slaughter in a Small Town

By C.B. Jones
Crybaby Bridge: Slaughter in a Small Town by C.B. Jones digital book - Fable

Publisher Description

"Crybaby Bridge is a gore-soaked trip down memory lane. One that starts innocently enough before pulling the reader into a bible-belt nightmare that could only exist in the middle of Nowhere, America."- Caleb Stephens, author of Feeders and The Girls in the Cabin

It's a typical Saturday night in the small town of Somerset . . . until it's not.

When a group of unlikely teens test fate by participating in a local urban legend, they face consequences they'll carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Presented in an oral history twenty years after the fact, it's Ken Burns by way of the grindhouse in this gripping tale of a bloody October night in a forgotten and vanishing America.

"An excellent follow-up to The Rules of the Road, CB Jones' Crybaby Bridge enriches the urban legend with a multi-voiced documentary style presentation." —Christi Nogle, author of the Bram Stoker Award® winning first novel Beulah

Crybaby Bridge: Slaughter in a Small Town Reviews

4.0
“I absolutely loved this book! Such a wild ride and a fresh story from such a classic genre. The length and way of storytelling really makes it feel almost like an urban legend and that really took the story over the top for me. I received a copy and am giving this review voluntarily.”
“This book is written from the perspective of a group of teenagers(now adults) being interviewed about a horrific event that occurred. It's a classic slasher flick in a novella that gets right down to it. Fast paced, keeps the story flowing. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.”
“3 out of 5 ⭐ Crybaby Bridge was kind of a disappointment to me. I'm not sure what I was expecting but the outline of the story just didn't do it for me. I understand that the author was writing in the style of a journalist finding information, there being different POVs from each person who gave their story and that's fine it just seemed to drag at the beginning. But, even though the beginning was slower than a sloth, I trekked over the bridge of no return to see what kind of horror was waiting. About 55-60 pages in is where it really started picking up. As I mentioned beforehand it's in the style of a journalist finding information, so the paragraphs/ pages would have the names of people who survived this horrendous serial killer. You are able to read from each person's perspective which was actually pretty intense after the story finally picked up. You do get to read some very in depth descriptions of how several people died. And, it may be considered "too graphic" for some audiences. But, those were honestly my favorite parts. The more gruesome the story got the more intrigued I became. The killer in this story was definitely interesting, especially with the fact that it seemed as though he may truly have had something connected to him that made him say "mama, mama, mama" before he started his killing spree. I also enjoyed how he didn't only go after certain ones, if you crossed his path you were a goner. (the cows didn't deserve that though) Although, yes I've heard many legends about Crybaby Bridge I've even tried to figure out how to go see for myself. This take on the slaughter that happened was different. I will give it that. And, I also know just as mentioned in the story there's been countless tales of Crybaby Bridge, but I guess I was just wanting more? Expecting more maybe? I would like to know if there will be more tellings about Crybaby Bridge or maybe these characters end up with a different serial killer at their back door? I would love to see how that got handled. I did enjoy the story after the pace picked up and I would have given it 4/5 ⭐ but, as I mentioned, it dragged too much in the beginning for me. I also found a few typos here and there, it didn't take away from the story but it was more of a nuisance just sitting there. Overall it was a decent read. I'm hoping the next read by this author is even better. (End note: Crybaby Bridge is a quick read, at least for me it was, I started it this morning and was able to finish it tonight(12.01.23) it roughly took me 3 hours altogether to read and finish it, so if you're looking for a quick read you may like it) (Received this ARC from BookSirens for free, my review is voluntary)”
