“I was expected to actively dislike this book based on other books I have read by the authors but I was pleasantly surprised that the audiobook sped by. When vampires, or Cursed Ones, revealed themselves to the world, they promised they wanted to live in peace but the reality has been quite different. In the US, the government has gone along with appeasement and people try to look the other way when friends and neighbors simply disappear. In Europe there are schools for hunters and one of those schools, in Spain, accepts foreigners. Jenn left home to attend Sacred Heart Academy. You don't even have to be Catholic, though to use a holy symbol against a vampire, you must be a believer in the symbol. She is one of the elite of her graduating class, meaning she was still alive at the end. Although she was not chosen to be The Hunter, she was paired with her beloved, a several hundred year old vampire who fights with the crusaders. He was a teen when he was turned but has devoted himself to the cause ever since. They are in love. The team has other pairings as well. A former IRA teen, a brilliant Japanese strategist, named as The Hunter, a Welsh witch, a werewolf. But they have not jelled as a team. When Jenn returns to the states to attend a funeral things are set in motion that may destroy them all. It's a very angst-focused book. The teens are used as cannon fodder for the most part and the story is derivative. But it is also fun. Jenn's insecurities were tiresome. I think she was one of 16 to live to graduation, she should have a little more confidence, but her commitment to eradicating the Cursed Ones was admirable. I won't be continuing the series, despite it ending on somewhat of a cliffhanger, but I don't regret listening to this.”
