“Thomas Sharpe they will never make me hate you.”
“60/100 As a movie-to-book adaptation, it’s not a bad read but it’s also not an astounding read. I believe if I hadn’t seen the movie prior then I would have had an easier time reading, but also if I was of the younger audience as well. This book has a very beautiful, gothic, classic prose, but there is not too much below surface level. Though, the horror is spine tingling. I would absolutely give it that. I also did love the distinct dialogue for each character… The romantic quotes were always written so well and I found myself giggling quite a few times not gonna lie… “But I cannot leave you, Edith. In fact, I find myself thinking of you at the most inopportune moments of the day. I feel as if a link, a thread, exists between your heart and mine. And that, should that link be broken by distance or time... well, I fear my heart would cease to beat and die. And you'd soon forget about me.” Like, Jane Eyre much..? So yes, I’d say this was a good book but would probably be tons more enjoyable had I not known and seen the plot played out in the film beforehand. Score explanation: This book is very beautiful. And though I feel like it could’ve done better with a little more maturity and less ghost-story vibes, I didn’t really enjoy the times I’d pick up Crimson Peak. It’s a bit hard to judge a book based off a movie, especially one that I’d watched before reading, but I can say that the writing was beautiful and I’d even read more from the novelizer. I just can’t say it was an all time favorite of mine.”
