“I was initially very intrigued by the plot and was wondering how it would be executed, and the answer is.. not too well.
I couldn’t suspend my disbelief enough to make this plot work. There’s just no way.
Hear me out: your 16 year old daughter steals your credit card, stops answering all calls and texts, and travels to a different state to land on the door step of her birth mother. The both of them then show up on your doorstep after the birth mother drives her 5 hours home. Your reaction is:
A: losing your fucking mind
B: losing your fucking mind with less intensity and more understanding
C: being very(!!!) blasé about the entire thing, inviting this random stranger into your home to stay for dinner and stay the night??? and not AT LEAST stressing why this was incredibly fucking dangerous for her daughter to do???
Obviously the answer is C, but also add on: falling in insta-love with the random stranger/daughter’s bio mother, an abusive husband who you then have to escape and logically the only place to do that is this random stranger’s house after meeting her.. ONCE, a timeline that makes no sense, barely fleshed out characters, and the pièce de résistance: a final act reappearance of the abusive husband who has been travelling over the entire country threatening people and being a general psychopath.. and he says something along the lines of: hey, I’m sorry for beating you and stuff for all of these years lol, you look happy, thought you might be gay this whole time really which explains why I had to fuck everyone else, hey wife’s new gf.. take care of her.. here’s the divorce papers, I’m in therapy now, I’m a really good guy hehehe peace out.
and then of course, they all forgive him.
