“This is one of my favorite nonfiction books in recent memory. The idea that America’s nuclear arsenal is somehow perfectly locked up and contained within a foolproof system of command and control is way too optimistic. This book chronicles the various types of accidents that nuclear weapons have encountered throughout their history in the US, some of them being extremely close calls, on American soil. The Damascus incident in Arkansas in 1980 with the Titan 2 missile is an accident I had never heard of, and now glad that I did. Nuclear weapon safety should be a high priority for any concerned American citizen. This book also provides a detailed account of the history of nuclear weapons in the US. High recommend.”
