“i have been very obsessed with suede recently after spending a shocking ammount on tickets to see them. I love Brett's vocals so much and as soon as i saw this i had to read it. This is easily one of the best things i have ever read he really has a fantastic writing style, it was so poetic and moving.”

“There was nothing that I didn’t like about this book. Brett Anderson tells a story as well as he writes a song! I was consistently engaged and I’m looking forward to reading the second volume. It also made me want to dig out … well, I was going to say dig out my old Suede CDs, but I’ll amend that to say add them to my iMusic library and give them a good listen again.
Oh! And a testament to how well-told this story is… when I realized that I was 97% through, it took by complete surprise! It went by like a flash.”

“Providing a short and concise account of his early life and the beginnings of Suede, my only gripe with Brett Anderson’s first memoir is that it feels like an incomplete counterpart (funnily, similar to Jarvis Cocker’s abstract auto-biography that also ends prematurely) however, it’s understandable as I imagine pre and post success feel like two completely different stories.
When Brett acknowledges how his relationships with his parents shaped him and subsequently his with his son, these thoughts had a somewhat profound effect on me when reading as I found myself analysing my own relationships and how they have shaped my attitudes and behaviours. As a songwriter, the lyrical prose that conveys Brett’s deeply honest rumination of his youth is ubiquitous throughout the pages and incredibly written.
