“Wren has been kidnapped when she was only five and has spent fifteen years as a slave to her captors. Nonetheless she’s managed to stay strong and maintain her innate kindness.
Knud has made lots of mistakes in the past and the people he loved have suffered for it. He’s determined to sacrifice everything for them now, even his happiness. What happens when two stubborn people with a big heart meet and fall in love? A great book, that’s what happens!
I loved this book, even if it was so full of angst that I had to take it in small doses. It’s my fault of course, because I can’t stand to read about slaves and injustice and people treated badly. But the love story is beautifully written, there’s adventure, steam, an intriguing historical period and fully fleshed-out characters. I would have punished the “villain” a little bit more, though, because I’m not very charitable and willing to forgive, unfortunately… Wren is certainly a better person than me, even she’s a fictional character!
Sarah Rodi never disappoints. A five star read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”
