“Not my type of book. I know a lot of others loved this book, I just didn't understand it. It did not grab my attention. The audiobook make it a little better, just enough I didn't dnf it early on. It was a very slow start first half, and it sped up slightly on the second half and quickly slowed down again. There were some twists I did not see coming. And some witty humor, which I did appreciate.”
“📱 ✶ An instance where a book's location anchors all other aspects of the world—The City of Last Chances felt like holding a tangled ball of yarn and pulling at different parts of the string to see where it connects. I was genuinely so intrigued as you jump from major to minor characters to see how their actions caused changes throughout the city, but also how the city, inevitably, changed them too.
Though pacing could feel slow because of how many angles you're looking at, the overall arc of this first book was dense but well-written, and had a satisfying, climactic cave-in for the readers first act and introduction of Ilmar.
I'll definitely be continuing this series!”
