Publisher Description

Is love worth betraying everything? Plunge into the second adventure in the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series and “prepare to be hooked” (Entertainment Weekly).

Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go -- especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil—and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings—and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Slightly Smiling Face“I loved this one more than the last! I like how things are tying together. I hate the incest subplot tho”

Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes“This book is my childhood. I love re-entering this world and getting to relive all the feelings I had when reading this series for the first time. I do see some of the characters a little differently, because I was a child reading about children, and now I’m an adult reading about children, and there were a lot more eye-role worthy moments, but this world, these characters, still have my heart. This series was my first favorite fantasy series, and definitely what spurred my love for stories.”

Thumbs Up“It was an okayish read for me. I’m intrigued to figure out what happens next or why Simon is still alive and able to walk in the sunlight. I want to know why the Inquisitor mentioned Jaces scar (that was too random not to be important) and I’m curious about the relationship between Luke and Clary’s mother. But in the end I wasn’t mindblown by the story and the characters.”

Thinking Face“This kinda put me in a reading slump for a minute. I’m gonna trust the process but idk if this one was for me crows.”

Slightly Smiling Face“I definitely liked this book more than the first one. The characters are growing & their relationships with each other are evolving. Clary is finally embracing more of her Shadowhunter heritage & Jace is as stubborn as always. Simon is finally learning who he is outside of Clary & Alec is learning who he is outside of Jace. Can’t wait to see what happens in the next book 😊”
