“I enjoy the way Reynolds’ subtly weaves a a touch of cosmic horror into his hard scifi. Sometimes the scariest plot points are so wild I could not explain them in a single elevator speech.
Also, the complex mysteries have me eating up all the lore set in this ‘universe’.
I did enjoy Revelation Space more, and the various short stories in Galactic North, than I did Chasm City. I thought Revelation Space #1 was much faster paced. If Chasm City had been 100 or even 200 pages shorter it would have been easily a 5 star read. Reynolds is building so many layers in this book and he takes a long time getting there. You appreciate it in the end but it’s a commitment to read.
When I come back to this universe I plan to read The Prefect trilogy next, before Redemption Ark, to get back in chronological order. I’ll be curious how that series compares to RS and CC.”Ritwick Ak

About Alastair Reynolds
Alastair Reynolds was born in Barry, South Wales, in 1966. He studied at Newcastle and St. Andrews Universities and has a Ph.D. in astronomy. he stopped working as an astrophysicist for the European Space Agency to become a full-time writer. Revelation Space and Pushing Ice were shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award; Revelation Space, Absolution Gap, Diamond Dogs, and Century Rain were shortlisted for the British Science Fiction Award, and Chasm City won the British Science Fiction Award.
